Twenty-four years ago, Ninoy Aquino was killed as he went down a plane at an airport that now goes by his name. Of course everybody knew who wanted him killed. It's a no-brainer. But justice has not been served to this day. Or has it been served on the other plane of existence? Nobody really knows.
I arrived in this world way too late to meet Ninoy. Or maybe he died too early. It would have been great if i got the chance to talk to him. I have always loved Ninoy. I've always admired his witty remarks, his bright ideas, and his patriotism. Too bad I met him only in books and documentaries. I believe the story of the EDSA Revolution is one of the best chapters in Philippine history.
It was really too bad Ninoy went away too early. Meeting his wife and son was more than enough consolation, however.
As a journalist, I've met fascinating people, among them were Cory and Noynoy. And among the many politicians I've met, it was only Cory who got me quite tongue-tied. She eluded reporters after the wide prayer rally in Luneta months ago. But I think I got her when I asked if she prayed for President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.She stopped and gave me a short quote: "I prayed for our country." It gave me shivers. I was but a forming baby when she came to power in 1985 and now I had the chance to talk to her.
Then there's Noynoy. I talked to him a couple of times and he is a nice guy. I would have voted for him if I had the chance last elections. I hope he would live up to the ideals of his dad.
Oh, there's Kris Aquino. But I don't think I would love to meet her. She's too showbiz. hehe :)
Inquirer was right to use Ninoy in its ads. "Why can't I come home?" Dare to ask. Dare.
Ninoy dared to come home. He died. But his death awakened the sleeping courage of more than two million Filipinos, who later trooped to EDSA and toppled a powerful dictator.
How I wish we need not have another Ninoy for our sleeping souls to be awakened.
I loff kris. hahahhaa. and im proud of it. ahahahaa.
ReplyDeleteheehee i love her too! after all, she's smart. :) Parang naging allergic na nga lang ako sa showbiz! si yilmaz at ruffa kasi! :) hahahaha
ReplyDeleteyilmaz and ruffa story is kadirdir.
ReplyDeletei also met noynoy before the elections. he has bright ideas.
ReplyDeleteNot only does the Philippines need another Ninoy but also another Cory because I believe that another People Power would be a waste if only another "Gloria" would assume the presidency.
ReplyDeletehello thanks for dropping by! and yes, i agree with you--we need another cory. :) note however that this blog was written way back in 2007, when tita cory was still alive and not yet even diagnosed with colon cancer.
