Quest for that one true love :)

I'm a real fan of tagalog songs. I grew up listening to 'now classic' songs such as Sana'y wala ng wakas, Ikaw, Gaano kita kamahal, among others. Well, blame my grandpa. :p But I don't lament loving these songs, for they made me believe that true love exists. If it doesn't, song writers would not have been inspired enough to create these masterpieces. Ok, here I am again, talking about true love, that one true love. But this is my blog and I can write whatever I want to. Stop reading if you want. haha :)

Seriously, I think finding that someone who really fits--that someone whose hands perfectly slide into ours, whose arms are warm enough for that sweet embrace, whose mushy words don't sound contrived at all--is a quest. For some, it's almost a life-long journey.

Finding a partner who you would love to wake up with for the rest of your life, or to argue with, or to stick with no matter what is no joke. It's no joke either that during our search for that missing prince charming, we, most often that not, have to meet frog-princes. And these ugly, slimy frogs made us believe that a kiss would turn our dreams into reality..only for us to later realize we got it all wrong. Then we become skeptical, we become scared. We stop the search. We refuse to go on with the journey.

Then love suddenly happens. :)

I don't know if this story holds true for most cases, but this is basically my story. :) Nix came when I thought it was already doomsday. But doomsday it was not.  It turned out to be the beginning of something beautiful. It turned out to be the beginning of many great days ahead.

And the journey goes on. :) Only this time, I already have that one true love to hold hands with :)

*I used to live at a dormitory near the college chapel, where wonderful weddings had been held. This wedding song never failed to make me fall in love again and again and again. :)

Ngayon at kailanman
Sumpa ko’y iibigin ka
Ngayon at kailanman
Hindi ka na mag-iisa
Ngayon at kailanman
Sa hirap o ginhawa man
Asahan may kasama ka sinta
Naroroon ako t’wina
Maaasahan mo t’wina
Ngayon at kailanman

Dahil kaya sa ‘yo ng maitadhanang
Ako’y isilang sa mundo
Upang sa araw-araw ay siyang makapiling mo
Upang ngayon at kailanman
Ikaw ay mapalingkuran hirang
Bakit labis kitang mahal
Pangalawa sa Maykapal
Higit sa ‘king buhay

[refrain]

Hanggang doon magwawakas pag-ibig kong sadyang wagas
Ngayon at kailanman

[repeat refrain]

Labis kitang mahal (ngayon at kailanman)
Langit may kasama ka (ngayon at kailanman)
Ngayon at kailanman

Ninoy Aquino

Twenty-four years ago, Ninoy Aquino was killed as he went down a plane at an airport that now goes by his name. Of course everybody knew who wanted him killed. It's a no-brainer. But justice has not been served to this day. Or has it been served on the other plane of existence? Nobody really knows.

I arrived in this world way too late to meet Ninoy. Or maybe he died too early. It would have been great if i got the chance to talk to him. I have always loved Ninoy. I've always admired his witty remarks, his bright ideas, and his patriotism. Too bad I met him only in books and documentaries. I believe the story of the EDSA Revolution is one of the best chapters in Philippine history.

It was really too bad Ninoy went away too early. Meeting his wife and son was more than enough consolation, however.

As a journalist, I've met fascinating people, among them were Cory and Noynoy. And among the many politicians I've met, it was only Cory who got me quite tongue-tied. She eluded reporters after the wide prayer rally in Luneta months ago. But I think I got her when I asked if she prayed for President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.She stopped and gave me a short quote: "I prayed for our country." It gave me shivers. I was but a forming baby when she came to power in 1985 and now I had the chance to talk to her.

Then there's Noynoy. I talked to him a couple of times and he is a nice guy. I would have voted for him if I had the chance last elections.  I hope he would live up to the ideals of his dad.

Oh, there's Kris Aquino. But I don't think I would love to meet her. She's too showbiz. hehe :)

Inquirer was right to use Ninoy in its ads. "Why can't I come home?" Dare to ask. Dare.

Ninoy dared to come home. He died. But his death awakened the sleeping courage of more than two million Filipinos, who later trooped to EDSA and toppled a powerful dictator.

How I wish we need not have another Ninoy for our sleeping souls to be awakened.

Paying it forward.

Six years ago, I took the UP Admission Test (UPCAT). Back then, I knew there was no other school for me but UP. And so the hard-headed me decided not to take entrance exams to other universities. But came January and no UPCAT results still. Needless to say, I got jittery and decided to sign the Miriam College Application Form my mom got for me. [Miriam was the only school still accepting exam applications at the time.] To make it short, UPCAT results came out Feb 4, 2002 and my name was on the passers list. :) I did not bother taking the MC entrance test. :)

First semester came, I flunked Math (Not surprising though. hehe). As usual there were hell weeks, when pressworks at the Perspective and exams came together. There were times I even had to chase a professor! Kulang na lang lumuha ako ng dugo huwag lang akong ibagsak! Whew! I'm sooooo glad those days are over. :D

Most of my college days were spent at SU (Perspective office) and the DevCom building. In the former, I found my lifelong partner (hehe :p) and most of my lifelong friends in the latter. DevCom is my home, the only college in LB I'd love to go back to {for a visit lang! hehe} over and over. :)

And so when the UP ADS called me to give a talk to DevCom students about journalism {Journalism and its role to National Development} , I said I'd give it a shot. The day came and I was shaking all over! hehe :) I gave several talks before but I've never been scared as I was when I gave it to DevCom! It was like thesis defense all over again! And almost a hundred pairs of scrutinizing eyes--including those of my old professors! Mam Vega, Mam Matulac, Mam Flor, Mam Mia, among others were there! :)

But when I saw that several students came not just because they were required to, I knew I had to give it my best. I suddenly felt the need to give these students what they must know, the things that you don't see in DevCom hand outs. :)

It was such a fulfilling experience. I'm soooo glad I found a way to pay if forward. :)

Thanks to Edison Tangon for the invite, Mam Vega for the teaching offer! Mam Mia for the nice intro. hehe :)

Thanks to my Nixlove for always being there. :) Your presence helped ease the jitters. :) huuuuugs :)

The haircut, teaching english, and getting lonely.

Just recently I had a haircut, a decision I had to think about many times over. There were telltale signs for me not to have the not-so-needed cut but I refused to acknowledge all the signs. Unfortunately, I wanted out of the parlor too late..the hairdresser was already ripping, cutting, killing my hair when I realized it was not the right thing to do! All I wanted was a new look but I went too far! Huhu..it's just so traumatic. Good thing the hairstyle wasn't as bad as I dreaded it to be. :)

The last 'major' haircut I had was way back in 2nd year college, when I had to part with -----**. my boyfriend before Nix. I was so depressed then I thought a haircut would save me from a heartbreak. Anyway, this time, a haircut gave me the heartbreak! Grr. Alleluiah to good hair days. Good thing Nix loved the new look.

Well, the day after that haircut, I had to teach english to Koreans. :) It's a nice part-time job (which I usually do hours after my off from the beat). I'm so lucky to have Julia, a 13-yr-old South Korean girl fluent enough in English!

I actually have nothing left to do but to talk to her and to ensure that she would not skip her homework. :) I actually don't need extra cash but hey, getting more isn't bad. :) At least I can now justify my shopaholic tendencies. :D And besides, I have long been interested in Koreans--I got attracted to their culture when one Korean approached me and asked if I was one of them. Still, I'm proud to be pinoy. :) haha :)

Next. I could not sleep now. Why? This longing is killing me. And to think we've been together for over 24 hours before he left. I just couldn't sleep. The house is not a home without him. :(

You know, it's very easy for me to be happy. But I find it really hard to get rid of loneliness.. Yes, three years have passed and I'm still very much inlove. I miss you my love :)

There, I feel better now. Writing is really therapeutic. Thanks for reading. Night, er good morning.
